Culinary Midrash: Eating the Texts

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Culinary Midrash is a practice much like traditional midrash. It involves the study and interpretation of a Jewish text and the process of identifying meaning and symbols. In the case of culinary midrash the symbols and meaning are manifested as ingredients, textures, and nutritional components. Connections are made between nutritional or aesthetic (taste, smell, texture) values and moral values. Participants will be introduced to this process and some examples of it and will then break into small study groups to create their own recipes from a given text.
