Contemporary Spiritual Masters: A Tribute to Shlomo Carlebach and Zalman Schachter-Shalomi

This year marks the 20th anniversary since the passing of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach (of blessed memory) and little over a half a year since his close friend and colleague Rabbi Zalman Schactor-Shalomi (o.b.m.) passed away. Childhood friends from Vienna, they later met in the US, and by the 1960s were engaging jointly and independently in pioneering a celebratory counter-culture Judaism that later evolved into what today many call "New Age Judaism." Through songs, stories, biographical sketches and teachings connected to Purim, the most joyous and transcendent of Jewish holidays, we will seek to show how the messages of both have much to offer contemporary Jewish spirituality.
